Disaster Relief Grant Program

The Benbrook Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) has created the Disaster Relief Grant Program to assist small businesses in Benbrook that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualifying businesses may receive up to $5,000 to assist them in paying their monthly mortgage or rent.

How much money can we get?
Businesses are eligible for up to $5,000. The exact amount will differ for individual businesses, and will be determined by BEDC.

What type of businesses are eligible to apply?
The business must be a storefront retail, service, or office located within the city limits. In addition, the business cannot employ more than 100 people, full- and part-time, excluding the owners. Additional requirements are listed below.

We also applied for assistance from the federal government. Can we still apply for this grant?
Businesses can still apply if, at the time of BEDC grant application, they have not yet received any funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act - SBA Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

How will the grants be allocated?
Grants will be distributed to approved applicants on a first-come, first-served basis, until the end of fiscal year 2020, or until funds are depleted.

Can the grant be used for other things, like paying employees?
The funds can only be used to help a business make its mortgage or lease payment.

When does the program open and close?
Applications were accepted beginning 8 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2020. The program will continue until Sept. 30, 2020, or until funds are depleted.

How many months of payments can we get?
The goal of the program is to provide a one-time, one-month mortgage or lease payment per business. BEDC reserves the right to review and approve assistance for a second month, but no one business will be eligible to receive more than two months of mortgage or lease assistance, and not to exceed $5,000 total.

Other Requirements

To be eligible, the business must:

- Have been in operation in Benbrook prior to January 1, 2020.

- Be up-to-date on all property taxes.

- Have no outstanding code violations.

- Agree to provide documentation to verify their mortgage or lease arrangements.

- Agree to provide documentation to verify that the grant funds were used appropriately.

The BEDC reserves the right to request additional documentation as needed to confirm eligibility.
