Recycling Options

The City of Benbrook offers several options for recycling or discarding of special items (other than residential curbside and commercial):

Ammunition & Explosives

Bring to the Benbrook Fire Station, 528 Mercedes, Benbrook.

Electronic Waste (E-Waste)

1. Benbrook offers periodic, stand-alone electronic (E-waste) collection events. These events are free to Benbrook residents and include a document-shredding truck.

The next event will be on Saturday, June 27, from 8am to 12pm in Dutch Branch Park (rear parking lot behind Par 3 Golf).

2. If you miss an electronic recycling event, you may recycle electronic equipment, including computers/monitors/printers, appliances, gaming systems, vacuum cleaners, VCRs, etc. by taking these items directly to Innovative Electronics Recycling at 404 Commerce Street, Azle, Texas. Or call 817-901-6040 or 817-304-6198 to arrange for home pickup. Please note that televisions will no longer be accepted at this location.

3. For free Computer Recycling for Personal and Home-Based Business Computer Equipment.

Propane Cylinders

These may be exchanged at local retailers such as Diamond Shamrock. Or check the yellow pages under "Propane Gas Equipment & Supplies."

Recycle Dumpster for Household Items

Benbrook provides a stand-alone recycle dumpster for residents who do not have the option to participate in curbside recycling. The green dumpsters are located behind the Benbrook Community Center/YMCA at 1899 Winscott Road.

Acceptable items for the recycle dumpster

Plastics: Number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 7 plastics such as milk jugs, liter bottles, shampoo bottles, etc. (please remove all caps). NO butter tubs or containers with openings as large as the container. NO plastic bottles that have contained oil or petroleum by-products.

Newspapers/Catalogs/Magazines are acceptable.

Glass: All colors of glass may be recycled. NO plate glass, ceramic, or mirrors.

Metal: All metal food and beverage cans (tin, aluminum, and steel) may be recycled. It is not necessary to remove labels, but please remove lids and food from containers.

Cardboard: All cardboard must be broken down to fit the blue bin. Large boxes may be flattened and placed under the bin.

Smoke Detectors

Most smoke detector manufacturers/distributors will take back detectors that they manufacture. Contact the manufacturer for mail-in instructions.

Used Tires, Batteries, Antifreeze, and Motor Oil

These may be discarded, for a fee, at the following locations:
