The City seeks to minimize damage caused by flooding through the following activities:
Identify areas at higher risk for flooding: Areas of high-risk are shown in the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) available from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Establishing standards for new development: The City has adopted the North Central Texas Council of Government (NCTCOG) integrated Stormwater Management (iSWM) manual.
Identify drainage improvement projects: The goal of the drainage improvements is to remove structures from the 100-year floodplain and to minimize localized flooding that may cause property damage. The Capital Improvement Program identifies improvements to drainage facilities programmed to occur in the next five years.
