The City is hosting a FREE event for residents of Benbrook to recycle electronic and appliance items and to shred documents on April 21, from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM, or until the shred truck is full, at Dutch Branch Park, rear parking lot behind Par 3 Golf. Follow the signs off Winscott to Beach Road (same location as Household Hazardous Waste event behind the Benbrook Community Center/YMCA, 1899 Winscott). The following is a list of common items that citizens can bring for recycling: •Televisions (any size)/Radios/Telephones • Computers/monitors/printers (Innovative Electronics destroys the hard drive) • Fax Machines/Copiers • Microwave ovens/Dishwashers/Washers/Dryers/Refrigerators • Gaming systems (Xbox, PlayStations, etc.) • Vacuums. Please limit shredding to a reasonable household amount. No large amounts of business documents. Please do not place plastic materials such as credit cards or compact discs with documents to be shredded.

The Benbrook Police and Fire Departments, working with the Drug Enforcement Administration, are hosting a National Take-Back Initiative to collect unused or expired over-the-counter prescription medications for proper disposal. The event is open to the public at no charge, and takes place on Saturday, April 28, from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM at the Benbrook Fire Station, 528 Mercedes Street. Please note: Intra-venous solutions, injectables, and syringes will not be accepted due to potential hazards posed by blood-borne pathogens.
